Maria Basel is a singer, composer, producer and DJ. Born and bred in Wuppertal, she has deep roots in the music scene of the Bergisches Land and the Ruhr region. In 2020, she made her first step into a larger echo chamber. The sound of her solo project combines her strengths as a classically trained musician and her love for electronic music, jazz and RnB. With her wistful harmonies, shimmering loops and reflective lyrics, Basel processes encounters from her life in her music, leaving plenty of room for interpretation and association by the listener. She draws on her experience of different musical genres and aims to discover new, unknown territories with her music. In addition to her solo project, Maria Basel has collaborated with many other genre-spanning artists, including Samy Deluxe, Jonas David, Christof Söhngen and Golow. She performed her own compositions in “Underground IV”, a programme by the ensemble of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, and worked with the chorus and ensemble of the Wuppertaler Bühnen as part of the Sound of the City project. In September 2018, she was selected as a recipient of the state of NRW’s Lalla:Labor artist award for popular music. Since 2020 she has also been funded by the music initiative of the German Förder- und Exportbüro. Maria Basel's debut EP "Layers" was released on Listenrecords in the spring of 2021. The singles "Lioness", "Same But Different" and "Wake Up Tired" had already been released earlier.
