Stefan Dreher

Backstage, Parcours

Stefan Dreher is a dramaturg, personal assistant to the artistic director of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, event specialist and yoga teacher. He loves contradictions, which he finds in their most vibrant and beautiful form in the poetry of the Tanztheater’s pieces. It is very important to him to support the new processes of individual artistic search at the dance theater and to perceive each of those as a special opportunity. It's about personal idiosyncrasies, the diversity of dancers and the art of reinventing yourself over and over again and still staying true to yourself. When he received the Munich Dance Advancement Award, Thomas Betz of the Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote: “Dreher reflects on the impossibility of learning to dance while also devoting himself to executing the perfect movement. Ever original, his broad range of approaches informs his productions and dance installations, which are always of high quality, cleverly constructed and full of charm. The results are a media-savvy but genuinely dance-focused oeuvre, an outstanding artistic achievement and an unusual aesthetic standpoint.”
