Christopher Tandy

Christopher Tandy is from Wales in the United Kingdom and graduated from Trinity Laban in London in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts (first class honours) in Dance Theatre. In his early career he danced for the National Dance Company of Wales under the artistic direction of Ann Sholem, and for Dansgroep Amsterdam under the artistic direction of Itzik Galili and Krisztina de Châtel. During this period in both companies he performed in numerous creations and repertoire by Itzik Galili and Krisztina de Châtel, alongside creations and repertoire by Stephen Shropshire, White Horse Collective (Trip En Masse – Swan Dance Award for Best Production at the Nederlandse Dansdagen 2011), Liat Waysbort, Giulia Murredu, Ronald Wintjens, Mark Baldwin, Stijn Celis, Stephen Petronio, Hélène Blackburn, Juan Carlos Garcia, David Dorfman, Sean Tuan John, Jerry Pearson, Janis Claxton, Eddie Ladd & Marc Rees, Ian Piears, Wayne Parsons and Roy Campbell Moore.  He worked as a freelance dancer from 2011 to 2018, during which time he collaborated with INNE|Iván Peréz/Korzo Productions (2011-2018), OffProjects/Amos Ben Tal, Connor Schumacher, Anouk Van Dijk and Falk Richter, Ben Duke/Lost Dog, Itamar Serussi/Danshuis Station Zuid (Mono nominated for Best Dance at the Nederlandse Dansdagen 2012), Mark Bruce Company (Best Independent Company for Dracula, 2014 Critics Circle Awards UK), Joris Van Oosterwijk & Hester Postma, Cecilia Moisio/Dansmakers Amsterdam and Mor Shani/Dansateliers Rotterdam. As a freelance dancer he has also worked with Javier De Frutos, Frank Bock & Simon Vincenzi, Hagit Bar, Sara Crow & Co, Leila McMillan, Heather Myers, Jasmine Ellis & Tony Jessen, Eleesha Drennan, and Michael Parmenter in New Zealand, where he was nominated for Best Male Dancer in the New Zealand Tempo Awards in 2008. Christopher Tandy has worked internationally as a rehearsal director, creative advisor, repetiteur and guest teacher for companies and educational institutions including INNE/Iván Pérez, Song of the Goat Theatre (Poland), Zfin Malta Dance Ensemble (Malta), Rambert Dance School (UK), Rotterdam Dance Academy and De Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (Netherlands), National Dance Company of Wales (UK), Mark Bruce Company (UK) and Kazan Opera Ballet (Russia). He has created his own choreographies including A Modern Virus, which toured throughout the Netherlands in 2013 as part of Krisztina’s Keuze. His other works include One and Two for the National Dance Company of Wales’s Departure Terminal programme, Occam’s Razor (an improvisational performance for the same company’s end of season gala), Helena for Dansgroep Amsterdam’s Solo/Duet programme, and Running Backwards for Rotterdam Dance Academy. He joined the Tanztheater Wuppertal as a permanent member of the ensemble in 2019.
